Jean Aiko Nakamoto, 81, of The Plaza at Moanalua, Oahu, formerly of Captain Cook, died Sept. 19, 2015, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Puna, she was a retired cafeteria manager at Holualoa Elementary School.

Masayuki Kitamura, 84, of Hilo died July 13, 2015, at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born April 23, 1931, in Hilo, he was retired from the state Department of Transportation Airports Division as a building construction and maintenance supervisor and was an Army veteran.

Librado Soria Cortel, 72, of Naalehu died Oct. 10, 2015, at Ka’u Hospital. Born Dec. 24, 1942, in Pangasinan, Philippines, he worked for Royal Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. in Ka’u as a nut picker, member of the Naalehu Assembly of God.

Born Sept. 28, 1962, in Honolulu, she was an inspectress and housekeeper at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, vice chair of ILWU local 142, Unit 1505 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Philip Luce
Philip Michael “Mike” Luce, 68, died Oct. 5, 2015, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born December 30, 1946, in Los Angeles County, Calif., he was a project engineer for the H-3 Windward Terminus on Oahu, helped build Kohala’s Akoni Pule Highway and later served as Grade Superintendent for Kuwaye Bros./Allied Aggregates, founded M. Luce Contracting, Inc. and MLC, Inc. He was also a chairman of the Hawaii County Planning Commission,volunteer at North Hawaii Community Hospital, supporter of the Kahilu Theatre, past president of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and Big Island Business Council, member of North Hawaii Rotary, the UH-Hilo and West Hawaii Chancellor’s Advisory Committee, Hawaii Leeward Planning Conference and the Kohala Ditch Foundation board, chairman for the Waimea Community Association’s Planning and Design Review Committee and member of the South Kohala Traffic Safety Committee.
He is survived by wife, Suzanne Hill;numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
A celebration of life will be held Nov. 7. Time and location will be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Kahilu Theatre Foundation, Kahilu Theatre, Box 549, Kamuela, HI 96743.
